Board Minutes for March 16, 2012

The meeting was called to order by Bill Ringbom, President, at 4:12 p.m. Board Members Bill Donovan, Gene Edgerton, Mary Neal, Judy Obermeier, Bill Ringbom, Dolores Soll, and Jean Wilson were present as well as Barbara Weiss, Manager.

Minutes of the January 27, 2012 meeting were reviewed and approved as corrected.

Treasurer’s Report: The bank balance was $1,538.34 as of January 31 and $1,776.47 as of February 29, 2012. We had 104 ½ tables in January and 97 ½ tables in February. February tables were lower because of the Sectional. Income exceeded expenses by $192.13 in February. Mary reported the 1099s for tax purposes have all been completed.

Club Manager’s Report: (1) There are sometimes problems caused by a director having to play. We need a flash drive so scores can be backed up. It was agreed Barbara will buy a flash drive and give directions to directors for backing up each game. (2) Bridgemate batteries need to be replaced when flashing lights appear. We have batteries on hand. (3) Barbara asked if we should consider a time clock but it was decided to rely on directors to speed up the games.

Old Business: None

New Business: Bill reported the city is requiring us to have a Certificate of Insurance to cover liability during games which are not considered to be a “senior activity.” These are the Wednesday night and Saturday games when the Senior Center is closed. In checking with ACBL, Bill got a quote of $897 a year for a liability waiver from the Hartford Insurance Co. Following a discussion of various ways to pay insurance costs, it was moved, seconded, and approved that we increase game fees to $5 per person, to start April 1. Bill will take up cost-sharing with the Unit at the next Unit Board meeting. The change to having our club members set up and take down tables will also begin April 1.

During interactions with city personnel, a number of questions arose relative to the club’s history at the Center. Bill will ask Gary Arthur for a short statement of the club’s history.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:55 p.m. The next meeting will be after the game on Friday

April 13, 2012.
